• In recent years the intellectual seems to have become a rare species, if not one that is near extinction altogether. Yet with this decline the concomitant task of philosophy as the watchdog of the social and political is brought into question. In this light, the aim of Intellectuals and critique is to examine the social and political position of the modern philosopher from the late 18th century and to inquire into what role the academic might assume and the accompanying form of criticism that philosophy could be assigned today.
